Nigeria’s digital business ecosystem is facing renewed cybersecurity concerns after the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) confirmed unauthorized access to parts of its information systems.

The agency disclosed that it had activated emergency response protocols and began working with National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and other government partners to investigate the breach and strengthen security measures.

According to reports, the incident may have exposed millions of sensitive company records, raising fears about data privacy, digital trust, and the security of Nigeria’s growing online business infrastructure.

The attack reportedly forced temporary maintenance and restricted access to CAC’s online portal as authorities worked to contain the situation and prevent additional breaches.

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has also launched an investigation into the alleged data breach, focusing on access control systems, vulnerability testing, and compliance with Nigeria’s data protection laws.

Cybersecurity experts say the incident highlights the urgent need for:

  • Stronger cybersecurity frameworks
  • Better protection for government databases
  • Multi-factor authentication systems
  • Regular security audits
  • Improved incident response strategies

The CAC incident is now being viewed as one of the biggest cybersecurity alerts involving a Nigerian government digital platform in 2026.
